About me

IMG_20211129_222735_956.jpg

My name is Ethan Cotton, I am a creative media student at Broadstairs college and a passionate amateur photographer. I discovered my passion for photography during my GCSE photography course. Due to financial situations I was not able to afford a DSLR camera. During this time I learned more than ever how a photographers equipment isn't as important as the person taking the photo. Using pure phone photography I managed to pass my GCSE photography with an A*. The day that I finished my GCSE's was the day I got my first camera. I have worked with newspapers based in Thanet and I am looking for any photography opportunities I can get

My experience

I have experience Working with Margate Mercury's newspaper company. This was set up by my previous school. When doing this I had to go to a local Margate restaurant, Olbys. When I was there I had to present the company and the owners positively to advertise the brand and the up and coming radio station. During this time I discovered how much I love photojournalism and this was when I fully understood that I wanted to become a photographer.  Moving further on I grabbed myself work experience with Margate Mercury's sister paper The Broadstairs Beacon, once again working as a freelance photographer. During this time I went to the Local micropub The Royston, and took photos of the owner Andy with his business. I was asked to take pictures of Andy and the general environment of the place. You can see the photos above titled The Royston Micropub.
